See Inside the Certification Program
This 5-minute walkthrough shows the LMS, the exclusive diagnostic tools, and exactly how the curriculum is structured to take you from electrical fundamentals to earning your appliance repair certification online.
Most other programs teach you to memorize error codes and order the most likely part. That works until it doesn’t — and when it fails, you’re stuck. Today’s machines run on Computer Control Boards, DC Voltage Communication, and Variable Speed Motors. A technician who can’t read a schematic or trace a control board signal is going to keep guessing.
The Appliance Tech Academy certification curriculum was built to fix that. We teach the underlying electrical and logical theory — the same methodology used at the manufacturer support level — so you can work through any brand, any model (Whirlpool, GE, LG, Samsung, Bosch, and more) without needing a walk-through for every job.
The Structured Path to Becoming a Certified Appliance Technician
With this structured approach, you start with learning the fundamentals, then see the application of those fundamentals on real-world diagrams, rather than redundantly and solely relying on basic strip circuits for things that you’re never going to see.
Other programs teach you a concept in one module, then don’t brush up on it or show its application later on. Or, they show it to you but expect that you remember it perfectly after they taught it once. We do it differently.
We teach a concept, and then we teach it again in a later module to show you the application that you will actually use, rather than sticking with the abstract. You see Voltage Drop apply to a dryer heating circuit, and then you see it again in a refrigerator defrost timer. By the time you’re in the field, it’s not theory — it’s instinct.
What’s Covered in the Certification Curriculum
⚡ Core Electrical Theory
Technicians often overlook the importance of understanding how electricity actually works, rather than thinking that just knowing a drain pump needs 120 VAC is all they need to know. (What happens if you get 0 VAC across a drain pump, but 120 VAC on each side to Ground?) You cannot fix what you cannot accurately measure.
- Ohm’s Law & Circuits: Voltage, Amperage, and Resistance in series vs. parallel — the foundation everything else is built on.
- Voltage Drop Diagnostics: How to find “Ghost Voltage” and high-resistance neutral failures with a multimeter.
- Schematic Analysis: Reading Strip Circuits and Ladder Diagrams to trace power without disassembling the machine.
🖥️ Computer Control Logic
Understanding logic is not just about knowing what a control board is seeing and doing, it’s about understanding why it’s doing what it’s doing. Understanding the underlying theory of operations of an appliance and all its components is what fosters this comprehension on how control boards actually work.
- Input/Output Logic: How a control board uses thermistors and sensors to make decisions — and how to test each one.
- DC Voltage Communications: Diagnosing “Lost Communication” errors between UI boards and Main Control Boards (including the F6E8).
- Triacs & Relays: Testing board output components to determine whether the board is actually faulty or responding correctly to a bad input.
❄️ Refrigeration Diagnostics
Electrical and frost pattern analysis — no brazing license required.
- Frost Pattern Logic: Reading an evaporator coil to instantly distinguish a sealed system leak from an airflow failure.
- Inverter Compressors: Testing VCC boards, understanding what an inverter compressor needs to operate, and the simple steps you can take to land on the right path for repair.
- Note: This module covers diagnostics only. Physical refrigerant charging and brazing are not included.
🧺 Laundry & Cooking Appliances
VMW, Direct Drive, and high-voltage platforms.
- Vertical Modular Washers (VMW): It’s important to take what you know about switches and electricity to understand how a lid lock works if you happen across one that you’ve never seen before. You can simply apply your understanding of circuits, loads, switches, and voltage to figure out how it functions.
- Heating Circuits: Tracing 240V circuits in electric dryers and testing gas valve solenoid coils.
- Oven Logic: Using the proprietary Oven Temp Calculator to visually verify temperature calibration.
What You Earn at Completion
Students who complete the full Certified Professional program receive a digital ATA Certification credential they can download, display on a website, and share as proof of professional training. It’s issued directly by Appliance Tech Academy and recognizes demonstrated competency in electrical diagnostics, computer control systems, and appliance-specific repair methodology.
- Downloadable digital certificate from Appliance Tech Academy
- Verified completion of all curriculum modules
- Credential you can reference with clients, employers, or in your business marketing
- Lifetime access to course materials — review any module any time
What Students Are Saying
Since launching in January 2025, over 300 students have enrolled. Here’s the kind of feedback we consistently hear:
“Hadn’t realized I’d been guessing at repairs for over a year and always dreaded the complicated board issues. Getting my appliance repair certification online here completely flipped the script for me. It just clicked once I saw how the theory applied to real world issues that had stumped me in the past.”
“Starting from scratch was intimidating but the instructor was incredibly responsive. Whenever I got stuck, I used the direct chat feature and he helped me get through some of the more complex topics quickly.”
“Probably one of the best appliance repair programs online! Really learned a lot and having the certification gave me the confidence to apply for a job.”
🧰 Exclusive Tools Included with Enrollment
Certified program students get access to proprietary diagnostic web apps built specifically for field use — not classroom exercises.
-
Oven Temperature Calculator
Input the high temps and the low temps to get the average in a visual manner instantly.
-
Whirlpool Code Readers
Decode binary with ease so you won’t misread an F0E3 as an F9E1 and replace the wrong parts.
-
Voltage Drop Calculator
Verify what voltage you would expect to read on each load in a series circuit without having to remember the math behind it for the one or two times that you might see it in the field.
